Summary: The Volunteer RN provides professional nursing services and direct patient care in an outpatient/community setting (primary care, behavioral health clinic) and in patients' homes (home care), focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, and management of chronic and acute conditions. This role requires flexibility, strong clinical skills, cultural competence, and a commitment to serving vulnerable populations with compassion and integrity.
Key Responsibilities (may vary based on program needs):

Direct Patient Care & Assessment:

Perform comprehensive health and physical assessments in clinic or home settings.

Monitor and document vital signs, health status, and changes in patient condition.

Accurately implement and document physician/provider orders (e.g., medication administration, wound care).

Provide skilled nursing procedures as required by the home care and primary care services.

Behavioral Health Support:

Collaborate with behavioral health staff (LCSWs, counselors) on integrated care plans.

Perform health screenings and brief interventions for co-occurring medical and behavioral health conditions (e.g., substance use disorder, anxiety, depression).

Monitor and educate patients regarding psychotropic medications, potential side effects, and adherence.

Health Education and Wellness:

Provide personalized health education and counseling to patients and families on chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension), preventive care, self-care techniques, and healthy lifestyles.

Educate and train patients/caregivers on proper medication management and home safety.

Care Coordination and Advocacy:

Assist in coordinating patient care across the continuum, collaborating with other team members (social workers, medical staff, administrative support).

Serve as a patient advocate, helping to navigate the healthcare system and connect with community resources.

Documentation and Compliance:

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records in compliance with established nursing standards, agency policies, and Missouri state regulations.

Qualifications:
-
Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Missouri.

Current CPR certification (BLS Healthcare Provider).

Experience in community health, public health, behavioral health, primary care, or home care is highly desirable.

Strong communication, assessment, and critical thinking skills.

Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort working with diverse, vulnerable, and resource-limited populations.

Commitment to regular, long-term volunteer service.
