WashU Serves is a year-round volunteer initiative connecting students, faculty and staff with opportunities to strengthen the St. Louis region. WashU Serves aligns existing service initiatives and offers new touch points for participation in regional volunteer efforts through partnerships with the United Way and local nonprofit organizations.
The WashU Serves portal, developed in partnership with the United Way of Greater St. Louis, includes general opportunities, student-focused opportunities, and skill-based opportunities for WashU stakeholders to serve the community. The skill-based volunteer opportunities allow individuals to search by work area (e.g., University Facilities, WashU IT, Marketing and Communications) and expertise (e.g., law, medicine, etc.).
Individuals and campus teams can search, register, and track volunteer hours year-round. There are options to filter opportunities by cause, geography, skills, or team participation. There is also an integrated dashboard for WashU to track engagement and volunteer hours.
Service Saturdays
Service Saturdays offers monthly volunteer events open to all WashU faculty, staff, and students. The program focuses on group-based, high-impact service projects addressing local needs. Opportunities are curated through the United Way and local nonprofit partners. These gatherings provide meaningful ways for the WashU community to contribute to the community outside work hours. See available opportunities below.
